AutoCipher is a system tray utility
that runs in the background. At Windows startup it can decrypt user defined
files and folders ready for use. At shutdown it can automatically ensure that
they are encrypted again and if necessary securely delete any files no longer
required. Furthermore a double click of the AutoCipher icon at anytime will
immediately secure the files which is handy if you have to leave your PC
unattended for short time. AutoCipher fully supports manually entered
passphrases and Cipherlok USB Tokens. |

Although Cipherlok's use of the
Blowfish algorithm makes it a highly secure encryption system this would be
worthless if the original unencrypted files were simply deleted after
encryption. This is because Windows (and other systems) does not fully erase
files after deleting them. Sometimes it keeps a copy in the Recycle Bin that
can be easily retrieved. Even after emptying the Recycle Bin it is still often
possible to undelete files or parts of files. To ensure this can't happen
Cipherlok securely deletes files by first overwriting them with a sequence of
0's and 1's. Normally this is done twice before deleting the file but can
optionally be set to seven times as recommended by the NSA. This secure delete
feature can be used seperately when you need to permanently dispose of
files. |
